TOP 10 SONGS FOR SPRING 2023

top 10 songs for spring

Flowers peeking, warmer air, blue skies…has our long awaited spring finally arrived. It makes me feel like singing and breaking out the picnic blanket. So now that it’s officially spring, I thought I’d reflect on some beautiful music which suits this beautiful season.

“Thus came the lovely spring with a rush of blossoms and music, flooding the earth with flowers, and the air with melodies vernal”.

  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Here are my Top 10 Songs for Spring 2018. Enjoy:

It Might As Well Be Spring – Ella Fitzgerald (1955 recording of the song from the 1945 film State Fair)

Pure class. What a voice.

The First Days of Spring – Noah and the Whale (2009)

This makes me want to laze in bed on a Sunday morning, listening with a cuppa (yeah right with three kids under 5!).

Spring Affair – Donna Summer (1976)

I love this – it makes me want to dance (if only I could dance).

Ooh La La – The Well Pennies (2017)

I have just discovered this band and this song sounds like spring.

Spring Fever – Elvis Presley (from the 1965 film Girl Happy)

This is such a fun little song – a real jiggly foot-tapper.

Spring – Vivaldi (published 1725)

A list of Spring songs wouldn’t be complete without this violin masterpiece.

Is It Just Spring – Lily Frost (2006)

Having spent many an evening in jazz bars with my husband, this takes me back to some happy times.

Spring – Tracy Chapman (2008)

Ah Tracy Chapman – such a unique storytelling voice, she really paints a picture.

I Am The Spring – Morcheeba (2010)

Another Sunday morning one, with lovely guitar and beautiful vocals.

Spring Wind – Jack Johnson (2010)

This is just gorgeous.

If you have any favourites you’d like to add to my list?

WHAT IS FANFARE MUSIC?

In 2008 my husband (to-be at that time) and I moved to a town in West Yorkshire called Ossett. We were both civil engineers working in the area and it made sense to settle there. Growing up I played the piano, I learnt at 4, peaked early, and played a lot for school at concerts […]

WHY LEARN SCALES?

A question every student of the piano asks, I’m sure. But why are they so important, and why do so many people find them tricky, boring, hard work, a pain in the backside? First, what is a scale? A scale is the collection, played step by step, note by note, of all the notes which […]

DO I NEED TO HAVE A GOOD MEMORY TO BE A GOOD MUSICIAN?

I recently posted a video on Facebook and YouTube about Musical Opposites. It was a really basic introduction to some common musical terms, the ones which I know well because I’ve seen them hundreds, thousands, of times. But there are many more which I don’t remember so well; I remember the word, but I don’t […]

WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT LOVE SONGS THAT HASN’T ALREADY BEEN SAID?

People have written music above love since…well since people started writing music. But somehow that doesn’t seem to have made the subject matter in any way boring or repetitive; our thirst for romance is undoubtedly insatiable.  A brief scan of google showed me that writing about the subject of love songs is not uncommon so […]
