Workshop type: Six hour long rehearsals to prepare for a performance
We held six rehearsals in the run up to Wakefield Business Awards to prepare a small group of singers to open the event with two songs. The idea was to bring something different, with lots of energy, to the event.
The rehearsal period was short – three hours per song, each song in three part harmony, all learnt by ear and from memory. People were unsure if we’d manage to learn the songs in time at first, but over time confidence grew. On the performance night, it was a busy event with people chatting so we used microphones to amplify the choir.
We didn’t have long to rehearse so I created rehearsal tracks to help the singers practise at home. People were really committed to the event and practised in between sessions which made a huge difference to how quickly we could get the songs learnt.
The performance was a huge success, the audience responded well, as did the singers, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed the experience. After the performance everyone was uplifted, energised and ready for a great awards night. People enjoyed the singing so much that we have now created a weekly choir session for We Are Wakefield members.

“Loved every moment, it was so much fun!”
“The choir was the highlight of the night – they were amazing”
“Absolutely loved it! Thank you for having faith in us”
